A review of the US troop chow hall in Kuwait: Would Michelin give it three stars?

March 31, 2007

I’m at an unnamed US airbase in Kuwait and getting ready to fly out to Baghdad tonight.. But first things first. I mean visiting combat zones is nice and all that but..did your mother teach you ANYTHING? Nothing is more important than food! First let’s talk about food. My first impression upon walking into the airbase commissary tent was, “Wow!” They handed me a plate and then served me one-fourth of a chicken, broccoli, mashed potatoes and green beans. High-end cafeteria food but tasty... Read article

The Great American Dream still exists — in Iraq!

March 30, 2007

Greetings from Kuwait! This post is gonna be quick and dirty and not very coherent because I’m writing to you from a Kinko’s at the Kuwait City airport. After two days on the plane, I arrived here around midnight and, since I can’t even begin to try to arrange to get picked up until 6 am tomorrow morning, I’ll be spending the rest of the night in a Barca-lounger in the airport offices of Kellogg, Brown & Root. How surrealistic is that! Here’s my first dispatch: You know how... Read article

March 29, 2007

A series of films by BAFTA-winning producer Adam Curtis, that tells the story of the rise of today’s narrow idea of freedom. Individual freedom is the dream of our age. It’s what our leaders promise to give us, it defines how we think of ourselves and, repeatedly, we have gone to war to impose freedom around the world. But if you step back and look at what freedom actually means for us today, it’s a strange and limited kind of freedom. Part 3 – We Will Force You to be Free Loading... You may need... Read article

Surviving at the pleasure of the President

March 26, 2007

“You is feeling like you was lost in the bush, boy? You says: It is a puling sample jungle of woods. You most shouts out: Bethicket me for a stump of beech if I have the poultriest notions what the farest he all means.”~~James Joyce, Finnegans Wake (1939) My friend Bernie says ever since the Bush gang stormed the White House in 2000, then stormed the World Trade Center in 2001, we’ve done nothing but run in circles like a bunch of terrified chickens with our heads chopped off. “We have no sense of... Read article

Woman of Steel: I’m off to Iraq & need Kevlar by Wednesday

March 25, 2007

When you are a reporter, you gotta go where the good stories are. And everyone knows that the hot stories today are in Washington DC and Iraq. Well, maybe in the Bahamas too — but mostly in DC and Iraq. I’ve been trying to embed in Iraq with the Department of Defense since last July. At first my senator, when she inquired on my behalf, was told that I couldn’t be embedded because I was “opinion-based and not fact-based” but as America’s goddess of accurate-yet-fun reporting Molly... Read article

Video: Water, Our Life, Our Hope

March 24, 2007

All human beings need water to live. Access to water is a human right. More than 75% of our bodies is water and the majority of the planet is covered in water. Now, ambition has lead transnational corporations – with the help of national governments – to look for the mechanisms to appropriate this vital liquid, which poses to become the principal source of wars in the 21st century. ‘The privatization of water, its springs, its distribution and its commercialization is taking place throughout the world under programs... Read article

Mr. President, it is time to go now

March 22, 2007

Sometimes a rumor is so frightening we hope that, no matter how tantalizing, it is not true. The following item appears in several locations around the Internet. It is disturbing. If it is true the first concern of all Americans must be to begin the process of removing George W. Bush from the presidency, not by impeachment but for reason of incapacity. A slow meltdown as we go through the clear unconstitutional acts we are also witnessing increases our vulnerabilities. We need to step lively and not sit round waiting for... Read article

Video: The Great Global Warming Swindle

March 15, 2007

This film brings together the arguments of leading scientists who disagree with the prevailing consensus that carbon dioxide released by human industrial activity is the cause of rising global temperatures today. The film argues that rises in atmospheric carbon dioxide have nothing to do with climate change. Further, the present single-minded focus on reducing carbon emissions may have the unintended consequence of stifling development in the third world, prolonging endemic poverty and disease. Bad Karma: Scalping Dalai Lama tickets & front row seats to World War III

March 15, 2007

“Jane! What are you thinking!” said my friend Mike. “Are you REALLY going to put your Dalai Lama tickets up for sale on e-bay? If you do that, you’ll probably get reborn as a COCKROACH!” Go away, Mike. I’ve had a bad day, a bad week, a bad month. Being reborn as a cockroach will probably just be a relief. Besides, aren’t cockroaches supposed to be able to survive a nuclear war? “Are you aware that George W. Bush is about to start manufacturing 20,000 nuclear... Read article

The Racism Ploy

March 12, 2007

No Sauce For The Gander Are we all on the same page when it comes to “racism?” No. Sometimes it is used to imply that one race thinks they are superior to others. Another dictionary definition is discrimination against people of a certain race or races. But in today’s world, it means just about anything a court, a group, an action committee, or any other faction wants it to mean in order to denigrate the other party (the one doing the offending, which by the amount of space devoted to it in media, is... Read article

Libby. Coulter. John Fund. DeLay: Are the NeoCons Toast?

March 11, 2007

I read Mary MacElveen’s article this morning, sent to me by three different buddies who knew I would be interested because of the linkage to John Fund. Just so Ms. MacElveen knows, as does the rest of the world by this point, CNN has no intention to employ Tom DeLay. Gene Gaudette of American Politics Journal called and ascertained that directly and duly informed me of the fact hours ago. He knew I would want to know right away. It is important to remember that John Fund is not a journalist. He is a NeoCon Operative.... Read article

Ann Coulter: Her Nastiness had no limits until now

March 8, 2007

Got this in my e-mail today: “(Washington, DC) – Log Cabin Republicans President Patrick Sammon made the following statement about pundit Ann Coulter’s remarks at CPAC: “Ann Coulter should be embarrassed by her anti-gay remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Coulter’s words are not worthy of this event or our nation’s political dialogue. Intelligent people engage in political debates using ideas not insults. Unfortunately, she has made a career out of saying increasingly outrageous... Read article
